The Philippine Society of Animal Nutritionists (PHILSAN) will hold its 37th Annual Convention on October 2, 2024, from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM, with the theme Foundations and Frontiers: Integrating Principles, Modern Trends, and Technologies in Animal Nutrition towards Food Security. After three years of virtual events, this convention marks an exciting return to face-to-face interactions and networking opportunities.
This year’s theme aims to capture the harmonious integration of traditional foundations in animal nutrition with cutting-edge innovations, and emphasizes the importance of building solutions for food security by considering established principles while exploring new frontiers in the pursuit of optimal animal health and nutrition. The convention will be attended by academicians and stakeholders in livestock, poultry, ruminants, pets and aquatic industries.

Plenary Speakers
Dr. Benito A. Oliveros received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and Master of Science major in Animal Science from the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). He got his Doctor of Philosophy major in Animal Science with specialization in Ruminant Nutrition from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, U.S.A. Dr. Oliveros served the University of Philippines Los Baños as faculty member from 1977 to 1998 teaching animal nutrition courses and serving as adviser to undergraduate and graduate students. In 1996, he joined Roche Philippines, Inc. as Animal Nutrition Manager and in 1997 he was assigned as Regional Technical Manager to provide technical support to sales and marketing of vitamins, enzymes and carotenoids in Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia. With the acquisition of DSM of the vitamin business of Roche in 2003, Dr. Oliveros continued his service to DSM Nutritional Products Philippines until 2013. In 2014, he was assigned as Regional Technical Manager for Carbohydrase of DSM Nutritional Products Asia Pacific Ltd. Pte. until his retirement in July 2016. He continued his service with DSM as consultant until 2017. He is also a consultant to Equalivet Inc., a company distributing feed additives and Vision 2000 Feedmill Corp. Currently, Dr. Oliveros is the In-Country Representative for Philippines of United States Soybean Export Council (USSEC). Dr. Oliveros’ fields of interest are vitamin nutrition, enzymes in animal nutrition, feed formulation and feed technology. In recognition of his work as animal nutritionist, Dr. Oliveros received the PSAS Outstanding Animal Nutritionist Award given by the Philippine Society of Animal Science in 2010, the PHILSAN Outstanding Animal Nutritionist Award given by the Philippine Society of Animal Nutritionists in 2015 and a Plaque of Recognition as Pillar of Animal Nutrition given by the Institute of Animal Science UPLB in 2017.

Mr Danilo V. Fausto obtained Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of the Philippines and master’s in business administration post graduate studies from the De La Salle University.
Mr Danilo V. Fausto is currently the President of Philippine Chamber of Agriculture and Food, Inc. He is also a Member, Advisory Board of the Philippine Carabao Center, Chairman, Dairy Committee and President, DVF Dairy Farm, Inc., which is involved in the production, processing and marketing of fresh Carabaos milk and other dairy products.
Mr. Danilo Fausto

Edwin Cabias Mapanao is the Assistant Vice President of Univet Nutritional and Animal Healthcare Company (UNAHCO) for Corporate Affairs and currently the President of the Philippine Association of Feedmillers Inc. (PAFMI). .
He is a passionate technocrat and strategic brand builder, completing his F.E. Marcos scholarship in B.S. Fisheries Major in Aquaculture from the University of the Philippines cum laude and Masters in Business Administration from Ateneo de Manila University. He also completed his Unilab-Harvard Leadership Programme. He is a Certified Professional Marketer in Asia and bagged the highest marketing excellence award in the Philippines given by the prestigious Philippine Marketing Association, 2008 Agora Awardee for Outstanding Achievement in Marketing Management (2008 Marketing Man of the Year). He is one of the founding members of the Marketing Institute of the Philippines. He is an Associate Professor at the De La Salle University RVR COB Graduate School teaching Marketing Strategy and Practice and Strategic Planning.

DR. RENE C. SANTIAGO currently serves as the Agricultural Center Chief at the National Swine and Poultry Research and Development Center in Tiaong, Quezon. Concurrently, he leads the Farm Operations Group at the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI). As the National Coordinator for the Philippine Native Animal Development (PNAD) Program, he recently achieved the rank of Scientist I in the Scientific Career System. Formerly, he held the role of Assistant Director for Production and Research at BAI from February to December 2021. He also served as the Officer-In-Charge Center Director at the International Training Center on Pig Husbandry from January to October 2022. Dr. Santiago's research revolves around developing, improving, and promoting native animals in the Philippines. He led the "Development of Sustainable Breeder Philippine Mallard Duck Production System," giving rise to the iconic "Itik Pinas". His ongoing pursuits include the Development of Breeder Farms for Philippine Native Chickens, Conservation and Profitable Utilization of Philippine Native Pigs, and the Nationwide Livestock Advocacy Program on "Itik Pinas" and Native Pig. He holds a Master of Science in Animal Science from the University of the Philippines-Los Baños (2011) and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Dr. Yanga Francisco Balagtas College (1990).
